Module Evaluation - OUGD405

The skills I have learnt through this module are learning how to manage my time more effectively, a better way of working through the ‘design process’ itself and learning more skills and techniques in InDesign. I feel I have used the skills I built on in InDesign the most effectively as I have applied them to both my final outcomes in Briefs three and four. I feel by how the briefs have been set out I have had to take a more independent approach which has helped me develop these skills of time management and thinking about how I need to use the design process to help me document and achieve my goals in the set time given. I feel in doing this I have developed on both these skills, which will now allow me to use these new abilities I have learnt on future modules.

I feel within this module I have developed on production methods such as research and design boards. I feel I have pushed myself into doing more effective primary research and not limited myself to just looking at secondary sources. I think I have approached methods such as design boards with more in-depth information and tried to explain my process of thinking more clearly. I think I need to further expand on this with my blog and critiques. In doing all these, it has helped me to think about the design process more logically and clearly which helps in organising me and my work.

I feel the strengths in my work have been the primary research I conducted in Brief 2, as I got the majority of my research from this. Within that research I used a variety of methods that did not restrict me, unlike secondary sources like books and websites that would have. I also feel a strength has been my layouts within Brief 3, as I think I engaged the most with this brief compared to the others in this module. I feel this is due to what we had to produce as I enjoyed looking into layouts and composition. I will further these strengths by thinking about layout with all future briefs as well as always conducting primary research within briefs as I think you receive better results. I feel my weakness within this module have been Brief 1 and 4. I feel my final outcomes were not strong and have let me down in this module. I feel I have not engaged as much within this module compared to the first but am unsure why this is. I feel I have not pushed myself in terms of idea generation and research but aim to change this in future briefs.
