Design Production, Brief 3 - Study Task 11: Project Rationale - OUGD504

The purpose of my campaign is to create awareness for my website ‘Origin’. The website is based on a study that explains what a coffee order says about a persons personality, in a fun and informative way. It allows viewers to engage with the website as they can upload their thoughts and opinions on said study.

I need to produce some advertising to showcase the website and gain an audience who will visit and interact with the site. I want to be able to gain viewers who will upload their thoughts and opinions to the site as this will make the website more engaging. The audience for my campaign will be people who have an interest in coffee and drink it regularly. This will mean the placement of my campaign will need to be very specific as it aimed as such a particular type of audience. This will mean the campaign will be placed in and around coffee stores; to make sure it is targeting the right group of people. It would also be distributed to people going in and out of coffee shops/stores to get the correct people engaging fully with the site.

As my website is quite light-hearted and informal, it would only be fitting to make the tone-of-voice the same. The language on the campaign will need to be as relaxed as possible to work in conjunction with the website and to suite the target audience. As the placement within coffee shops is so specific, I think it would be fitting to create the format of this campaign in relation to what products are found in coffee stores. For example, coasters, coffee cups, stirrers etc. As well as thinking about more obvious media such as leaflets and posters, as these are also found advertising new products within stores. I think this would give a great mix of both normal and new media to use throughout the campaign, without restricting myself to the average mediums. At this point in time the materials I would be using are still slightly unclear. I am initially thinking of using mix media and so in this case it would be both paper and other materials such as bags, wood (for coasters, take out bag etc). I think this mix will give an interesting take on the campaign instead of being so restricted with solely paper materials. As for budget this is something I am going to bare in mind when closer to printing, but at this time I think it is quite hard to pin-point exactly how much things will cost. However, I will revisit this as soon as I know the exact outcomes I am going to produce. With this campaign I must make sure I use the same colour scheme, type etc as used on my website, as well as using the logo on everything I produce. This is to make sure the website and campaign have a clear link with one another and look as though it is augmented. I must also make some sort of interaction within my campaign to add an extra interest to the media. I would to combine some sort of personal interaction, as I think coffee order and personality is something personal. I think making this a link within my campaign will be important and something to bear in mind. I need to also consider time frame, as this is an extended brief I need to make sure I do not let this brief get away from me. As it such a long brief I will need to plan in advance for every stage to make sure I am on track throughout and after Christmas. I am going to do this through timetables and to-do lists to help with this.
