Design Principles - OUGD404

Task - To bring in an A, B, C, X, Y, Z and a, b, c, x, y, z in 3 different typefaces with different characteristics as varied and as opposite as possible.
Below are my 3 chosen typefaces:

Helvetica

The characteristics of this typeface are, that it is quite formal and smart. It is a Sans - Serif font. Flexible in its use as it is modern and sleek.

Apple Chancery

It is a Script typeface. It has curved serifs trying to give off the idea its handwritten and sophisticated, in my opinion is does not do this. The creator has elongated the stems to add to the class its trying to achieve. The mix of line weights within each letter, with some parts being heavy and some light, try to add to the handwritten script like elements.

Cooper Std Black

In my opinion, this typeface is almost cartoon like. It is very informal. With a typeface having serifs I always imagine it to have quite smart characteristics, however in this case, it does not. It is very heavy and bold and has quite oval shaped bowls. It's short stems condense the font giving it the cartoony style.

In the session, separating the letters into the categories we had learnt about, Stone, Bone, Sable, Wood, Lead and Silicone.
