In this session, we were going over the anatomy of type and developing more on this. We looked at the anatomy of type and went over what this meant:
"Spacial Framework - The baseline, x-height etc.
X-height - Defines all lowercase letters. Doesn't have to be in the middle.
I found it extremely insightful looking at how the point size was worked out, as I had never considered this before.
"Body copy fonts are designed to work at 12 points, which is one pica. Pica's are in multiples of 12's. If you purchase a font you would only get the one point size."
FONT CATEGORIES - Block
- Gothic
- Roman
- Script
FONT - Making of type (Bone, Wood etc) Defined by Production.
TYPEFACE - Same design but a range of point sizes and characteristics. Within a family (Regular/Light/Italic/Bold) all 6 different FONTS, difference between typeface and fonts.
