In this session we where learning about the origin and history of type and the visual language within graphic design.
Image - Symbol - Letter
1. Production - How would you collect these.
2. Anatomy - Comparing e.g strokes and weights.
3. Identity - Chronological - by date made.
4. Character - Compare and link to others.
Looking at the 6 origins of type:
Task - Choose one font for each category (origin) that best describes it.
Stone - Curved Serifs. To mark into stone the letters had to have serifs:
Bone - Quill like (pen and ink) Thick to Thin:
Sable - Italic, Bold, Line Height and Brush like:
Wood - Textured, Mass produced, 'Strong' and Mechanical:
Lead/Metal - Controlled, Clean and crisp. Serif or Sans Serif:
Silicone - Computerised, Printers, Digital Work:
