Study Task 1, Type Journal - OUGD404

TASK - Document, Organise and Evaluate and ongoing investigation into type and typography using the principles, practices and examples introduced during the studio workshops as a starting point.

Baskerville
John Baskerville

'Baskerville has long been deemed a classic typeface thanks to it's elegance, refinement and the perfection of its letterforms.'

Baskerville, is a traditional serif typeface. It's interest to me is it's use and how diverse it is across a variety of shops/brands etc. It has been used 'from fashion houses to stationers' due to it's timeless and elegant appearance. It's mixture of thin and thick line weights create this sophisticated look and the flourishes and curves on letters such as the 'Q' create a feminine and decorative character.

Bodoni
Giambattista Bodoni

Bodoni is again a serif typeface with extreme difference in thin and thick line weights. It again stood out to me due to how popular it is in term of it's usage. It is heavily popular with brands such as fashion/design and very female orientated. This I think is due to the delicate yet formal look which is still quite feminine.
