Module Evaluation - OUGD406

The skills I have developed through this module have been how I have developed my designs more conceptually rather than aesthetically. I always try to work conceptual as I feel this produces more interesting work, however feel I have done this with more depth and understanding with every piece of work in this module. I feel I have done this the most effectively with the Secret 7” Brief and the Alternative Movie Poster Brief. I feel I can now use the skills learnt from this and apply it to everything single module from now on. I have also learnt how to develop my work for a purpose. We have had two live briefs within this module and one where the public has actually seen the outcome. Because of the nature of these briefs, it has helped me to understand how to design my work for a purpose rather than doing something to answer a brief. I will continue this mind-set of seeing a brief more as a purpose as it only benefits my work. I feel I have also learnt to work more efficiently in a group as well as developing my skills on creating videos, as this is something Brief 2 demanded.

I feel within this module I have developed on production methods such as my way of working and presenting/critiquing my work. I feel I have created a more structured way of working which has allowed for more experimentation and development in certain briefs. I feel I have also explained my work better when running informal critiques, which has allowed for more helpful feedback. This has helped my development process, as I have been able to take my peers feedback and suggestions to develop and refine my work more.

I feel a strength within this module has been the way I have created more conceptual work rather than aesthetically. I do always think of a concept within my work but feel within this module I have gone deeper into this process and thought of more interesting ideas. I will continue this way of working as it has helped my design process, while also making my final pieces more visually pleasing. I feel I have experimented with more ideas with briefs as well as being more confident in design decisions such as colour, type and layout. I will try and keep these ideas up for future modules as I feel they have helped achieve a more successful final.

I feel within this module I have gone backwards compared to the previous module. I feel I have always been strong with items such as design boards and blogging however feel this has not been the case this time. I feel I left doing my design boards too late after each brief, which did not allow me to go into as much detail as I normally would have when explaining them. I feel this is the same for blogging, I feel I have not shown my process as well as I have previously have. Another weakness within this module has been research, last module I feel I did really interesting primary and secondary research, whereas for this I feel I could have pushed myself into doing more. I am going to attempt to push myself in terms of research in future modules as well as doing my designs boards when each brief comes to an end.
