Study Task 1, Type Journal - OUGD404

TASK - Document, Organise and Evaluate and ongoing investigation into type and typography using the principles, practices and examples introduced during the studio workshops as a starting point.

Found on building around Leeds. I Like the structured look of the type, with the slanted characteristics of the ‘A’. The grid system used adds to this structured feel. The logo is well thought through as it shows both the 'b' and 'g', however would this be noticeable if the 'broad gate' was not next to it?:

Found around Leeds:

Coffee shop logo for ‘Heaven’. The 'e' stands out against the heavy block type on the rest of the logo. This I think shows a gentle ‘heaven’ like quality, which is obvious against the rest of the logo. I think it is a nice contrast in type and scaled well.

On another building around Leeds. Again like most type around Leeds it has an old, traditional look, which is shown within the serifs and structure of the type:

Logo for Waitrose. Clean cut sans serif font:

Interesting logo and branding for Pret. Interesting use of baseline as the crossbars of all letters are extremely low. This makes the type look restricted but in an effective way:
