Design Practice 2 - Studio Brief 1 (Part 1) : Human Nature Show - OUGD505

Leeds Gallery have recently opened the new exhibition 'Human Nature Show'. The artists have explored the environment thinking about sustainability and look to nature as a way of inspiration and connection for their pieces. The exhibition shows art in a new way, using nature as a key source. This shows a clear link to biomimicry as it is taking inspiration from nature and re-using and re-applying the ideas and techniques.

I found this to be a great insight for my biomimicry research, it has helped me think about the practical side to this brief in more detail as well as thinking about exploring new mediums. Sculpture was a key theme within the exhibition, using found materials is something that could possible be of interest within the practical side of this brief, as it is relevant to the environment itself and something that I have never previously explored.

Felicia Charles had some really interesting pieces within the Human Nature Show. The underlying issue of reduced population really spoke volumes within the work on show. The raw-ness of the cut out type communicated this further as it showed a harsh, yet venerable undertone.

Mark Jones work was something that really stood out to me within the exhibition, the use of materials within his sculptures had a really interesting mix of texture and colour. I found the underlying tone of environmental issues within the sculptures to be really intriguing. This made me think about what tone of voice I want to communicate with whatever I produce for the practical needs to be.
