Florist branding and business cards were looked into to gain a sense of what already exists as well as medias and aesthetics used. The Mitchell & Dent series convey femininity due to the delicate nature of mediums that are used. The thin line weight of the ink and soft nature of the watercolour show a decorative feel that is well suited for botany. What is interesting is the name title of each flower on the different cards, creating both continuity as well as differentiation. The idea of a series is quite interesting as it adds to this further. In doing so, it helps expand the look and feel of the business as it creates variation throughout the cards, this is perhaps something to bare in mind with Best Buds. The illustration style is something that is also of interest. The way the illustrations flow add to the femininity without being constricting, unlike a more detailed illustration would.
Another flower series was found unlike the others that had previously been looked into. These business cards are much more concise and constricted due to the vector nature of the shapes and lines used. These have much more of a unique take of florist business cards compared to other more decorative works. However the sense of the flowers and plants still come across to the viewer and this is what makes them so interesting. However the idea of femininity and delicacy are lost and so unsure whether this route would be suitable for Best Buds. Again these have been used as a series which is again of interest.
Photography was then found on another series of business cards. Although the idea of the series is interesting there is something about the cards that is not visually appealing. The idea behind the cards works and the photography has been beautifully done however I feel the pink colour scheme may have been overly used. The imagery is already quite feminine, this is then extended by the pink of the flowers as well as the back of the card. The flower petal logo is also adding more decoration to the cards and so I can't help but feel the series is too overly-flamboyant and should be more balanced.
Another illustration style was then looked into, which has a more detailed, precise look and feel to the cards. The illustrative nature creates a flamboyant feel to the cards compared to the previous Mitchell and Dent series. In my opinion I do not particularly like the style of illustration used as I feel the series is far too constricted. However the card illustrations subtly seem to move into the next, creating a continuation throughout the series.
How the brand can be applied to a stationary series was then briefly looked into. Although the illustration is not particularly interesting, how it has been combined with the strong green brings the brand together. How both the colour and imagery has been applied to each element is something that needs to be kept in mind for Best Buds. The strong nature of the logo with the serif typeface creates balance throughout the stationary with being overly decorative.
