I have mixed feelings when it comes to the final for this brief. This is a similar situation to the YCN: Moo brief. I feel I have an interesting concept, however the visual lets it down. The overall concept and idea I am pleased with, the wine glasses connote the ideas and themes I were trying to explore but feel it is the type and layout that lets the cover down. The ideas of femininity as well as god and the church are subtle but noticeable. However perhaps bread or rosemary beads could have been included to make the religious element slightly more prominent. The overall photography was interesting to do, the use of lighting helped explore the themes further by creating denser shadows. What I feel lets the layout down is the type, perhaps not enough experimentation went into the development of this, however for such as short brief I am pleased with what I achieved. I think the overall concept is intriguing for the kind of book Oranges is, in saying that the visual would not entice a viewer in, due to it being slightly bland and boring. Perhaps colour should have been introduced to add extra depth to the work? If I were to develop on this I would allow more time for the brief, refining things such as the typography and colour scheme.
