For research into Secret 7", past entries from the 2014 have been looked into. Even though these are for different songs it is a great insight looking into last years exhibition as it will help in seeing what has been and what could be done.
Here is one the most interesting vinyl sleeves at the exhibition due to how the imagery is set to move as the viewer does. The interaction of the piece draws the viewer in, making the sleeve stand out. Due to femininity and the suggestive nature of the lips, the imagery relates well to the song choice without being overly obvious. This is something that needs to be thought about within my song choice 'Sledgehammer' as it is full of innuendos and sexual themes.
The illustration style for this cover is one of my personal favourites. The medium used creates a variety of textures which work well with the imagery produced due to the delicacy of the imagery. The traditional media is produced in a modernist style and the shape of illustration mimics the circular shape of the record. Due to the shape of the illustration, the negative space around the bird creates a breathable composition which is pleasing to the viewer.
The vector shaped imagery is well suited to the block colours used. This is due to the illustration style which makes the whole sleeve stand out. However, I can't help but feel it is slightly chaotic, it seems to be trying to connote something loud and impacting but instead looks slightly overwhelming. I feel a successful element within the piece is the 3d nature of the layers used as it shows depth to the sleeve.
The nature of the line weight creates an intricate yet geometric pattern that shows delicacy as well as impact. The medium used creates a textured and entranced look that entices the viewer. However, on a larger scale it could be quite off-putting due to the complexity of the design, which is why it will work well for the size of the vinyl sleeve.
The imagery below suggests the process of refraction with the illusion of colour and projection. What is interesting is the look of a 3d element within the pieces due to the interlocking prism imagery. This creates depth and dimension to the piece.
